Solar for Remote Small Farms

Project overview

This project provides small-scale solar power systems to households and small farming communities in Railaku, a remote area of Railaku Administrative Post, Ermera Municipality. It focuses on families who rely mainly on small-scale agriculture and have little or no access to grid electricity.

The challenge

In many remote parts of Railaku, basic electricity is extremely limited or non-existent. As a result:

• Households rely on candles for light at night
• Charging a phone or flashlight can mean travelling up to 6 km
• Lack of reliable lighting affects safety, communication and daily productivity

Our solution

GoKoval deployed compact off-grid solar systems designed to be affordable, reliable and easy to operate. Each system provides:

• Safe, reliable household lighting at night
• Charging for essential devices such as mobile phones and flashlights
• Less dependence on candles and long trips for basic energy needs

The systems are intentionally simple, to ensure local usability and long-term sustainability.

Impact

The project improves household safety, communication and quality of life for remote farming families. It shows how small, right-sized solar systems can make a meaningful difference in rural areas where grid expansion remains challenging.
