School Solar Power Kit – Lospalos
School Solar Power Kit – Escuela Preescolar Maluro-Lereado, Lautém
Project Overview
This project delivers a small-scale off-grid solar power system to Escuela Preescolar Maluro-Lereado, located in Suku Maina II, Loro Administrative Post, Lautém Municipality, Timor-Leste — one of the most remote and underserved areas in the country.
Accessing the site required a 6-hour journey by road, followed by transporting solar equipment across two rivers and difficult terrain, highlighting the extreme isolation of the community.
The village is home to approximately 80 households without access to electricity, where the school serves as a critical center for early childhood education.
System Purpose
The solar power kit was designed to provide essential electricity for education, including:
– Charging phones and laptops for teachers and school use
– Supporting basic digital learning activities
– Enabling continued teaching in the absence of grid electricity
Although small in scale, the system plays a significant role in improving learning conditions in a previously unelectrified environment.
Impact
This installation represents more than just a technical solution — it is a step toward education access and community development.
For the first time, the school has reliable access to electricity, allowing:
– Improved teaching capabilities
– Access to digital tools and resources
– A better learning environment for young students
In communities like Maina II, even a small solar system can create meaningful and lasting change.
