School Solar Power Kit – Lospalos

Project overview

This project delivered a small-scale off-grid solar power system to Escuela Preescolar Maluro-Lereado in Suku Maina II, Loro Administrative Post, Lautém Municipality — one of the most remote and underserved areas in the country.

Reaching the site took a six-hour journey by road, followed by carrying the equipment across two rivers and difficult terrain. The village is home to around 80 households without electricity, and the school is a vital centre for early childhood education.

Our solution

The solar power kit was designed to provide essential electricity for education, including:

• Charging phones and laptops for teachers and school use
• Supporting basic digital learning activities
• Allowing teaching to continue without grid electricity

Impact

For the first time, the school has reliable access to electricity, enabling:

• Better teaching capabilities
• Access to digital tools and resources
• A better learning environment for young students

In communities like Maina II, even a small solar system can create meaningful and lasting change. This project reflects GoKoval’s mission to bring clean, reliable energy to communities the grid cannot reach.
