National Early Warning System
Solar power that keeps remote flood and disaster monitoring sensors online when communities need them most.
Project overview
In 2026, GoKoval deployed 22 W IoT-grade solar power systems to support remote early warning systems across Timor-Leste. They provide reliable off-grid energy to flood and disaster monitoring sensors operating in high-risk, hard-to-access locations.
The objective is simple: keep data flowing during extreme weather, when early alerts matter most.
The challenge
Many early warning sensors are installed in remote areas without stable grid access. Common issues include:
- Slow battery recovery during cloudy conditions
- Inconsistent power supply
- Poor matching between panel, battery and load
- Limited local maintenance capability
Without reliable energy, early warning data fails — and communities lose critical response time.
Our solution
GoKoval designed and deployed a 22 W IoT-grade solar node optimised for:
- An 18 V system architecture for better morning charge recovery
- A stable battery charging profile
- Resilience in tropical weather
- Low-maintenance operation
- A compact installation footprint
Under typical conditions the system reaches full battery recovery early in the day, leaving a buffer for unpredictable weather.
Impact
- Reliable operation of flood monitoring stations
- Increased uptime of disaster risk sensors
- Less system downtime during the rainy season
